 Mermaids are, according to folk tales, water fairies who live in the depths of clear waters and come to the banks of rivers, pools and lakes at night. They love to sing and dance, they are seductive as well as hardworking and skilled. They help people with a good harvest, as they bring moisture to the fields and with their power have a beneficial effect on fertility. People who are sympathetic to them learn some useful work or skills and show them the way to healing students. However, they punish those who mock them, insult, shout or harass forest, field or aquatic animals. Caution is always needed when contacting the fairy world, as breaking the rules usually ends tragically.
